EXPERIENCE SAN CLEMENTE SURF…

San Clemente has been a secret treasured spot by surfers in the know. The word has leaked out, and now the town is home base for many of the country’s major surf magazines. The New York Times calls San Clemente “a center of West Coast surfing culture and one of those few corners of Southern California where development is hemmed in by protected wild areas.”

Longboarders can enjoy several great spots in San Onofre State Park (or “San-O”), including “Dogpatch”, “Old Man’s”, “4 Doors”, and “The Point”. All of which are best with a South to South West swell angle. While just north of “San–O” is “Church” which is usually shared by long and short boarders. “Church” also breaks best with a good South to South West swell, but also picks up West and North West swells well.

Just north of that is the famous area known as “Trestles”. Trestles consists of “Middles”, “Lowers” and “Uppers”. Lowers is considered to be a “world class” surf break and is best on a South or South West swell. Uppers picks up the same swells as Church. Moving North around Cotton’s point in front of the exclusive gated neighborhoods of Cypress Shore, Cypress Cove, and Breakers is “Cottons”. Cottons picks up pretty much everything like Church and Uppers. Between Cottons and the San Clemente Pier there are a ton of beach breaks.

Primarily for shortboarders, these breaks are “Califia" or "State Park”, “Riviera”, “Lausen or Lost Winds”, “T-Street”, and the Pier. North of the pier are more beach breaks, Mariposa and “204’s”. All of these beach breaks are best on a mix of swells. With a 5 mile stretch of coastline, San Clemente has something for every surfer to enjoy! Call Aaron Boss for more information. 949.276.8000
